Choosing the Best, Inc. is a not-for-profit, 501c3 organization which provides abstinence education to Georgia public school students.

Program Services include:

  • Teacher training to middle and high school Health/Physical Education and Science teachers who in turn teach Choosing the Best Way, Path, Life, Journey, and Soul Mate to students in 16 public school systems state-wide.
  • Parent Programs: through local PTAs and during regular school-scheduled parent meetings, teachers and/or Choosing the Best staff present a one-hour program to engage parents in promoting abstinence as the healthiest life choice for their teens.
  • STARS (Students Teaching Abstinence, Responsibility and Self-Respect) Peer Leader Program:  100 peer leaders, carefully selected Juniors and Seniors, from high schools throughout Georgia participate in monthly meetings and a training conference in order to promote abstinence within their schools through classroom visits and other activities.

A Community-Based Abstinence Education grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families provides funding for:

  • Teacher training, parent programs, and peer leader training for each participating school district;
  • Teacher training materials, including leader kits for teachers and teacher supply kits for classroom activities;
  • Student manuals;
  • Parent program materials;
  • STARS Peer Leaders' training expenses and honoraria for their Coordinators.

School systems participating in the grant are:

Barrow, Chatham, Clayton, Dougherty, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Hall, Houston, Lamar, Muscogee, Paulding, Pike, Richmond, Rockdale, and Spalding.

During the 2006-07 school year, 70,000 students were trained in Choosing the Best Way, Path, Life, Journey or Soul Mate. 72% of the 53,000 respondents to the Post Course Evaluation agree that: "As of the present time, I choose to wait to have sex until I am married."
